What is enki?

enki is an electronic health record (EHR) platform with integrated billing services.

Created by NextServices, enki is a platform developed with the future of healthcare delivery in mind. It's on the cloud. It's mobile. Interoperability (or the ability to speak with other systems) is inbuilt. Additionally, it has deeply integrated practice management services and features.

There are three broad principles on which enki is built

How can you use enki?

  Retrieve your records in an airplane

  To use enki, all you need is a browser with a good internet connection. Any browser - though it works better on Chrome and Mozilla. You can also get enki native apps for your iPad and Android devices and access your records while on the move.

  With drag and drop customization, enki can be personalized for every doctor and staff member in the practice. Access restrictions can be created at every module-level.

What features does enki have?

• Usability

  Simple design: Just like email, enki is simple enough that it requires minimal formal training. enki's simplicity in design allows for personalization at an individual level.

  Accessibility: Enter vitals on the iPad, access it on the web. Update medications on the web, access it on the Android device. enki engine allows access via multiple browsers and devices.

  Meaningful Use dashboard: A dashboard provides real-time compliance updates based on customized dates.

  Flexible charting: Unlike most EHRs, you don't need to follow a rigid pattern of charting. Document a chart in your own style in a path that you are used to on paper.

  Patient reminders: Run reports based on various clinical criteria (e.g. cholesterol patterns, demographics, medications) and send follow-up reminders to patients.

  Messaging: Communicate with practice staff via inbuilt messaging features.

  Uploading documents: Old charts, faxes, lab reports - upload them all quickly and easily.

  Security

  Verisign secured: enkiworld.com is encrypted with 256-bit encryption using TLS 1.0 and certified by Verisign. Simply put, your data is solidly secure.

  Amazon Web Services Security and Compliance: enki is hosted in North Virginia utilizing highly secure data centers. AWS has completed multiple SAS70 Type II audits and is ISO 27001 certified. More information on AWS security is available here.

  Access control: Every module in enki can be controlled for read, edit, delete for all users on the system providing high degree of security to patient data.

• Interoperability

  Record sharing: Share records to referring physicians and patients seamlessly in both electronic and human readable formats.

  Cloud-computing: Just as your online bank or brokerage account, enki is available on the cloud. This allows for secure access of your records wherever you are instead of being location-bound to your office.

  Mobile: iPad or Android tablets - make your pick. enki is mobile.

  Patient portal: Allow your patients to access their records (per your specifications) via a 256-bit encrypted secure patient portal. Patients can also access educational information related to their problems, medications, lab results and allergies.

  Clinical

  Auto-coding: Enter any part of any disease and enki accurately tells you the ICD-9 code. enki is also SNOMED and ICD-10CM compatible.

  Clinical Quality Measures (CQM): Not just meaningful use, earn Physician Quality Reporting Initiative (PQRI) incentives by correctly document CQM measures. enki will help you do that.

  e-prescription: Electronic prescription is made possible via SureScripts network.

  Updated drug database: First databank ensures that our drug database is always current.

  Labs and radiology: Connect with any lab in the country and transmit orders and receive your results electronically.

How to get MU incentives?

Meaningful Use refers to the demonstration of usage of a certified EHR product by healthcare providers according to pre-defined criteria by Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS). CMS extends a financial incentive based on successful adherence to meaningful use.

In summary, there are three stages to be met: Stage 1 (2011 and 2012), Stage 2 (expected rollout in 2014) and Stage 3 (expected rollout in 2015). In Stage 1, there are totally 25 meaningful use criteria (15 core measures and 10 menu set objectives). To qualify, an eligible professional must meet at least 20 of these.

  1. CPOE: To enter medication orders per guidelines (50%)
  2. Drug-to-drug and drug-to-allergy interactions: Enable functionality
  3. Problem list (80%)
  4. e-prescribe (40%)
  5. Active medication list (80%)
  6. Active medication allergy list (80%)
  7. Record demographics (50%)
  8. Record vitals (BMI, BP, plot growth charts for children) (50%)
  9. Record smoking status (50%)
  10. Report clinical quality measures (report 3 core, plus 3 others)
  11. Implement clinical decision support (any one rule)
  12. Provide patients an electronic copy of health information (50% in 3 days)
  13. Provide clinical summary for patients of each office visit (50% in 3 days)
  14. Exchange key clinical information among providers of care (enable functionality)
  15. Protect electronic health information

  Menu set

  1. Drug formularies (any one formulary)
  2. Lab results (40%)

  4. Patient reminders (20% for > 65 years and < 5 years)

• 

  Attestation

  In order to attest for meaningful use participation, please do the following in enki:

  1. Select 90-day attestation period in MU Dashboard module
  2. Print the MU dashboard
  3. Print CQM dashboard
  4. Access CMS attestation website
  5. Complete instructions with data from MU and CQM dashboards
  6. Submit for attestation

  CMS issues a check in 4-6 weeks for successful attestation to Stage 1 meaningful use criteria.

  Note on Stage 2 delays

  The Department of Health and Human Services has delayed Stage 2 start date to 2014. Final Stage 2 rules are expected to be released by June 2012. All providers attesting to meaningful use in 2011 or 2012, will be required to start Stage 2 together in 2014.

  The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) creates technology standards, establishes meaningful use criteria and certifies EHR vendors. enki version 1.0 has been certified by Drummond Group, an ONC authorized testing and certification body (ONC-ATCB).
